Air Force Vet/Registered Nurse
My amazing husband served as a medical technician in the Air Force for 4 years. He left to attend college at Texas A&M University to be an engineer, but was recalled into the Air Force for Desert Storm. This time after serving, he decided to make caring for others his career, while continuing to serve in the Air Force Reserves as an aeromedical evacuation specialist. He tested to be a Licensed Vocational Nurse and cared for veterans in Dublin, GA and San Antonio, TX at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hosptal, which is where we met and married in 1996. When I was pregnant with our 5th child in 2016, he decided to go back to school. He became an RN, earned his Bachelor’s degree and Masters degree in nursing, all while working full-time at the VA Hospital. During his time at Audie L. Murphy, he cared for veterans in the Spinal Cord Injury Center, the Barter Reseach Center, and finally in the Chemotherapy Clinic. He recently retired from the VA after 36 years of government service and has now started a second career educating future nurses at the nursing school he attended, Galen College of Nursing. He is also very proud of the fact our 2 oldest children followed in his footsteps and are currently serving in the United States Air Force!
