Crafting Sonora Bourbon: A Tribute to Female Leadership in Bourbon Craftsmanship
From the heart of the Texas Hill Country comes a bourbon that embodies the rugged beauty, heritage, and untamed spirit of the Lone Star State—Sonora Bourbon, Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Rye Whiskey Barrels. This exceptional bourbon draws its name from the awe-inspiring Caverns of Sonora, a crystal kingdom hidden beneath Texas limestone. Just as the Caverns of Sonora took millions of years to form, Sonora is the product of years of careful aging, refinement, and an unyielding dedication to perfection.
Sonora is not just another expression in the Garrison Brothers lineup; it represents a groundbreaking achievement for women in a traditionally male-dominated industry. In March 2022, Garrison Brothers filled thirty 53-gallon rye whiskey barrels with four-year-old Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Three years later, that very bourbon has matured into something extraordinary—Sonora. With the Garrisons’ blessing, Master Distiller Donnis Todd guided Samantha Olvera on this project. She has been a leader within the Garrison Brothers distilling team for the last seven years and is also the first female Latina in Texas to craft bourbon from grain to glass. Olvera helped manage this project alongside Nancy Garrison, Donnis Todd, and the many talented women at Garrison Brothers. Sonora celebrates their strength, vision, and collaboration.
With every bottle sold, $5 goes to Texas Cave Management Association benefitting the Caverns of Sonora, preserving one of Texas’ most extraordinary natural wonders for generations to come.
Tasting Notes
NOSE Rich aromas of sweet corn, oak, and rye spices mingle with vanilla and butterscotch.
PALATE The palate bursts with black pepper and cinnamon, followed by a bouquet of citrus zest, almond tea, and wildflower honey.
FINISH Lingering finish of brown sugar and crème brûlée.
