My husband is currently deployed to the southern U.S. border in support of Border Patrol operations. While he has been serving there, we welcomed our first child into the world — a baby boy. Instead of holding his newborn son, he has had to get to know him through a phone screen, and he will continue serving away from home for the remainder of the year. He is one of the strongest men I know — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. He carries the weight of responsibility without complaint and continues to show up every single day with quiet determination. No matter the circumstances, he keeps his head up and remains focused on the mission at hand. He is the first to offer help, the first to step in when someone is in need, and the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. I’m not saying he is an incredible husband, father, and member of our community simply because he’s my husband — I say it because it’s who he truly is. He genuinely cares about every person he comes in contact with and leads by example in both service and character. Even from miles away, he is already an amazing father. Our son will grow up knowing that his dad chose to serve, sacrifice, and stand firm in his values — not just for our family, but for others as well.
