Team Rubicon Announces Return of Salute to Service Awards Honoring Nation’s Veterans

NYC Gala to celebrate veterans with an evening of guest speakers, live music, dinner, and live auction with contributions from Garrison Brothers on Wednesday, May 1

AUSTIN, TEXAS  (April 16, 2019) — Team Rubicon, a global disaster response organization that unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to deploy emergency response teams, is proud to announce the return of its annual Salute to Service Awards at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. Taking place on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m., The Salute to Service Awards brings individuals together to recognize the contributions of partner organizations, individuals, and thought-leaders in the Team Rubicon organization.

The Salute to Service Awards will kick off with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and a program of distinguished guest speakers. A live auction aimed at raising additional funds will begin at 7:30 p.m. including a Garrison Brothers’ Single Barrel of bourbon and a $2,000 gift certificate for an indulgent dinner for four at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse New York, among other auction items.

Changing the world with good bourbon is something the Garrison Brothers team has embraced since its inception, so partnering with Team Rubicon was a natural fit when the opportunity arose in August of 2017. When the devastation of Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast, Founder and Proprietor of Garrison Brothers Distillery, Dan Garrison, saw an opportunity to help fellow Texans in need.

“We firmly believe that good bourbon can change the world and know that we’re stronger with other like-minded folks by our side,” said Garrison. “Team Rubicon is a leader in changing the world and our team is honored to work with such talented and hardworking individuals.”

To continue their support of Team Rubicon, Garrison Brothers will donate $1 from the sale of every bottle of Small Batch Bourbon and $5 from every bottle of Single Barrel Bourbon sold in New York from April 1 – May 31, 2019. Garrison Brothers will also serve their signature “Hell or Hye Water” cocktail at the awards reception.

Now in its eleventh year, the Salute to Service Awards are held in New York and Dallas to highlight the outstanding support and dedication to our nation’s veterans and their continued service to local communities. This year’s Salute to Service Awards host is Willie Geist, host of NBC News’ Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, and co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Highlight of this year’s event includes honoring Microsoft with the prestigious Commitment to Service Award, for their thought leadership and support surrounding Team Rubicon’s digital transformation.
Team Rubicon’s primary mission is providing disaster relief to those affected by natural disasters, be they domestic or international. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Providing military veterans an avenue to regain a sense of purpose, community and identity through disaster response, Team Rubicon also helps reintegrate veterans back into civilian life. They also focus on serving economically-challenged communities first.

“Across the world, disasters are a part of life,” said Jake Wood, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Team Rubicon. “No corner of the globe is spared from severe weather – be it crippling winter storms, catastrophic hurricanes, or unchecked wildfires. By focusing on underserved or economically-challenged communities, we seek to make the largest impact possible. Disasters represent a massive financial cost, and by providing immediate relief work, free of cost, TR aims to help communities begin recovery sooner.”

ABOUT GARRISON BROTHERS DISTILLERY
Garrison Brothers Distillery is a small farm and ranch located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country that authentically produces straight bourbon whiskey. Garrison Brothers introduced the first bourbon whiskey legally made in Texas in 2010 and has since developed a rabid fan base. They currently have a waiting list of more than 15,000 just to volunteer on bottling days, and their Cowboy Bourbon™ normally sells out within hours of its release. Garrison Brothers is the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas history and is one of the first distilleries in America outside of Kentucky to produce authentic, made-from-scratch bourbon whiskey and only bourbon whiskey. The business was founded in 2006.

Every expression of Garrison Brothers bourbon is made from a sweet mash bill and barrel-aged in the intense Texas climate. The extreme heat creates multiple aging seasons in a year, resulting in a darker, richer, and fuller bourbon; bolder than almost any other bourbon on the market.

At the American Craft Spirit Awards in 2018, the Garrison Brothers team was awarded a gold medal for its Single Barrel Bourbon, a silver medal for its 2016 Small Batch Bourbon, and another silver for its Balmorhea Double Barrel Bourbon. Garrison Brothers was voted Best Craft Whiskey Distillery in America by readers of USA Today in 2017.

Garrison Brothers is a proud and active member of the communities of Blanco, Fredericksburg, Hye, Johnson City, and Stonewall. The distillery and its barrel barns are open to the public for tours in Hye, Texas. Anyone interested in learning more about Garrison Brothers Bourbon or in taking a tour of the distillery should visit garrisonbros.com or follow @garrisonbros on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
