I was in the marine corps and was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. I had given up on life and wanted to lay down and let it take its course. Ryan Gunter was in my unit as a teacher. He took me under his wing and made sure I was going to fight my cancer. He took me to the gym almost every day and helped me eat better so my body was ready for the hell that is chemo and the extensive surgeries. He took me to all my appointments and even drove me to my first tumor removal. He always checked on me and made sure I was taking care of myself. When I was moved to another unit for better medical care he continued to help me every way he could. On my worst days he would call and help me and keep my heady steady. If it wasn’t for him I would be dead. There are tons of marines that always looked up to him and will tell you that he helped them every day. He never let anyone fall through the cracks. He is the most perfect definition of a Marine.
