Melissa retired from the Navy in 2021. In the Navy, she was an Information Professional and specialized in communications, networks, and cybersecurity. As she left military service, she decided to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. Melissa wanted to be directly involved with helping people. After moving to San Antonio in July 2021, she started her nursing career in a COVID ICU, where she took care of critical COVID patients, watched many die, and did her best to comfort the patient and their families. She also spent time as a hospice nurse, visiting numerous terminal patients desperate for a smile and a kind word. She is currently in a heart and transplant ICU, providing the best possible care for patients with heart conditions or in their pre- and post-transplant stage. Melissa doesn’t have to work. With two military retirements and my well paying job, she could chose to do nothing. Instead, she spends long 13 hour days caring for critically sick people and comforting them and their families.
