About the Tapped and Unwrapped

A chocolate orange, tapped and unwrapped. This Old Fashioned riff stirs Garrison Brothers Small Batch with silky gum syrup, chocolate mole bitters and orange bitters, then finishes with an orange peel and a Luxardo cherry. Rich, citrusy and made for dessert hour.

Questions, answered

What is gum syrup?

Simple syrup thickened with gum arabic. It gives a stirred drink a rounder, silkier texture. Rich simple syrup works in a pinch.

What are Xocolatl mole bitters?

Chocolate bitters from Bittermens with cinnamon and spice. Any chocolate bitters will work.

Can I batch it for a party?

Yes. One 750 ml bottle of bourbon makes about 12 drinks. Combine it with 6¼ oz gum syrup and about ⅓ oz each of chocolate and orange bitters. Add 6½ oz cold water, chill, and pour about 3 oz per glass over a large cube.
