*Texas Bourbon Maker Earns a Total of 5 Medals*
Austin, TX (May 5, 2021) – Garrison Brothers Distillery, Texas’ first legal whiskey distillery, is pleased to announce that its rarest, oldest expression to date, Laguna Madre has won the Double Gold Medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC). The Double Gold designation is awarded to the very few entries that receive Gold Medal ratings by all members of the judging panel. Also taking home wins, Garrison Brothers’ Single Barrel earned Silver Medal and three Bronze Medals went to Balmorhea, Cowboy, and Small Batch. Since its introduction in 2000, the SFWSC has become one of the most respected and influential spirits competitions in the world.
“We are honored that our majestic Laguna Madre bourbon has been recognized for the uniquely complex beauty that it is. We poured our heart and soul into this fine nectar for the past 10 years,” adds Donnis Todd, Master Distiller, Garrison Brothers.
This year marks Laguna Madre’s first year entering the prestigious competition. Over a decade in the making, Laguna Madre represents the pinnacle of Garrison Brothers small-batch, handcrafted process. In 2020, the distillery had planned its first release to the market, but when the coronavirus pandemic hit, this extra special bottle was used instead to help launch Operation Crush COVID-19 driving donations to Good Bourbon for a Good Cause the distillery’s 501(c)3 public charity. The 2020 Laguna Madre was only available at the distillery and was given away to those who donated $1,000. The organization was able to raise more than $400,000 to help American communities recover and rebuild from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Garrison Brothers was founded by Dan Garrison in 2006 and officially entered the market in 2010. Based in Hye, Texas, the family run business aims to consistently deliver the finest bourbon in the United States. Garrison Brothers currently offers six award-winning expressions in their portfolio. To date, the team has won many accolades for their bourbon. At last year’s 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Garrison Brothers Distillery took home Double Gold for Balmorhea, Silver for Single Barrel and a Bronze award for Small Batch. ABOUT GARRISON BROTHERS DISTILLERY
Garrison Brothers Distillery is a small farm and ranch located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country that authentically produces straight bourbon whiskey. Garrison Brothers introduced the first bourbon whiskey legally made in Texas in 2010 and has since developed a rabid fan base. They currently have a waitlist of more than 18,000 just to volunteer on bottling days, and their Cowboy Bourbon™ normally sells out within hours of its release. Garrison Brothers is the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas history and is one of the first distilleries in America outside of Kentucky to produce authentic, handmade bourbon whiskey—and only bourbon whiskey.
Every expression of Garrison Brothers bourbon is made from a sweet mash bill and barrel-aged in the intense Texas climate. The extreme heat creates multiple aging seasons in a year, resulting in a darker, richer, and fuller bourbon; bolder than almost any other bourbon on the market.
At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021, Garrison Brothers’ Laguna Madre was awarded the Double Gold Medal along with one Silver Medal for Single Barrel and three Bronze Medals. Can you add the SFWSC Balmorhea Double Gold in 2020? At the Denver International Spirits Competition, Garrison Brothers won Best of Show for 2021, taking 1st place for their Cowboy Bourbon.
Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible named Balmorhea, a twice barreled bourbon, “the American Micro Whiskey of the Year” in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Garrison Brothers was voted Best Craft Whiskey Distillery in America by readers of USA Today in 2017.
Garrison Brothers is a proud and active member of the communities of Blanco, Fredericksburg, Hye, Johnson City, and Stonewall. The distillery and its barrel barns are open to the public for tours in Hye, Texas.
